Bio

Sarah Bell is the director of the Kansas Museum of History and Education and Museum Division of the Kansas Historical Society. She was previously the development officer for the Watkins Museum of History in Lawrence, Kansas. She studies 19th century U.S. history, women, gender, and sexuality studies, and public history. Her research examines women's political activism within the Chautauqua, analyzing how women co-opted the movement's mission of education to promote their suffrage and temperance causes on a public platform. She holds a BA in history from Truman State University, as well as an MA in museum studies and PhD in history from the University of Kansas.
