Confederacy Reinforces Camp Jackson

Thursday, May 9, 1861

Siege guns arrive at the secessionist Camp Jackson, near St. Louis, Missouri, in boxes clandestinely labeled "marble."

Meanwhile, Nathaniel Lyon, commander of the Union arsenal St. Louis, allegedly spies on Camp Jackson by dressing as a woman. In any case, Lyon correctly perceives the secessionist threat and soon moves to prevent Governor Jackson from seizing the federal arsenal at St. Louis.
